Another game for us that was decided by just one goal, but this time we were on the right side of the scoring & won 4-3.
It was a close game - not necessarily a great game to watch as it was quite messy & not really "pretty" floorball - but it was a game in which our patience & discipline to playing to our game plan paid off. SSV have several good junior players and we had to work hard to control the play & maintain possession, because we knew that if we made too many mistakes it wouldn?t take them long to score from them.
The first SSV goal came from a set-play, but their other two goals contained a certain amount of luck - a bouncing ball in front of goal, lots of players - the kind of situation that usually ends with a free-hit or a goal.
On the other hand, all of our goals came from strong possession of the ball, good passes & players making good positions. Tuija Salminen & Jenni Rautanen combined for the first three goals & defender, Annina Mero, scored our last goal as a result of a well-placed shot & good movement from our players in front of goal. In goals, Krista Laine played very well, making several great reflex saves...one that even had the SSV announcer calling out her name! We were always coming from behind in this game, which can be difficult, but our players showed good confidence & patience to continue to score & eventually got one goal ahead. Again, we made the final result a little bit difficult for ourselves playing 4 of the last 6 minutes in a short-hand situation, but the difference this time was that we were already ahead on the score-board & were able to defend very well to ensure the win.
Now, we look forward to a 3 week break before our next game, which gives us the opportunity to practice some new set-plays & tactics, as well as improve some of the things from our first games.
